The Gold Coast of Australia boasts many five star hotels. At Sanctuary Cove, on the Northern end of the coastal strip is the Hyatt Regency Hotel (Left). The setting is in one of Australia's most exclusive residential precincts, abundant golf courses virtually on the doorstep with Harbour Village and marina offering everything for the shopper or sailor. In Washington State USA, close to the Columbia River in Klickitat County is the Top Hat Tavern (Below Right) in Goldendale. There are no pubs similar to those in Australia however, the atmosphere of the “bar-room” is reminiscent of what is expected down-under. What Australia does not expect are the flags. Dunnett Head is the most northern point of mainland Scotland and the Northern Sands Hotel (Below) welcomes visitors with excellent accommodation and food. The restaurant specialty is A Taste of Scotland and the Heather fed Venison medallions make a Breakfast Creek steak pale by comparison. At St George in outback Queensland, on the banks of the Balonne River, is the Australian Hotel (Below Right). Motel type accommodation is available in a separate wing but the hotel recently suffered severe damage in riotous like behavior by a local group. The hotel is the subject of controversy that involves the death of an alleged intruder, a matter presently before the courts. |

Comment on the venison at the Northern Sands in Scotland must be qualified. The Heritage Listed, recently restored and beautified Breakfast Creek Hotel, (Below Left) undoubtedly serves Australia’s best steak’s. Not only that, the beer directly off the wood, is served in the Private Bar. This photograph was taken during extensive road-works that included a tunnel under Breakfast Creek. While on the subject of food. The Black Horse Hotel (Below Right) in Atwick, East Yorkshire proudly features a “guest” beer each week. Some are splendid examples of the brewers craft but beware, they can kick like a Brahman bull. For a first class meal, of the very best Haddock and Chips to be had in England, this is the place to go. |
